Sen. Webb: a little smarter
spontaneity, please....

by Terry Michael, December 3, 2006

Authenticity and spontaneity are qualities many of us are desperately seeking in politicians. Jim Webb was certainly both, in his "That's between me and my boy" exchange with President Bush at a White House reception.

But a smart retort would have been infinitely more useful for the cause of forming public opinion against this immoral projection of American military power. Senator Webb, next time think a little more before you speak. We need credible voices in the Senate, and you would have added to your usefulness as a voice against this disastrous policy with a response that would have sounded more like this:

"My boy is fine, Mr. President. But he and so many other sons and daughters would be much better if you would end this outrageous war and bring them home now."
